In Loving Memory of Chancellor Alton “Chance” Daniels Chancellor “Chance” Daniels was born on April 6, 2009, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Percy Daniels and the late Tracey L. Brown. On September 6, 2026, Chance departed this earthly life, leaving behind cherished memories in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, and all who knew and loved him. Chance was a beloved student athlete at Sumrall High School, where he proudly played football as a defensive back and wide receiver. His passion for sports extended beyond the football field, as he also enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. Through athletics, Chance formed meaningful friendships, created unforgettable memories, and brought his own special energy and personality to every team he was a part of. Outside of sports, Chance enjoyed the simple things that brought him happiness. He loved fishing and hunting, especially spending time outdoors and making memories with family and friends. These activities were a special part of who he was and gave him opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, laugh, have fun, and spend time with the people he loved. As a young boy, Chance loved spending time playing with his friends and family in Lampton, Mississippi, before moving to Sumrall. He was known for his youthful spirit, his love for the people around him, and the happiness he brought into the lives of others. Chance leaves to cherish his memory his father, Percy and Coletha Daniels; his sisters, Crystal Daniels Manning and Paris Daniels; his brother, Cole Daniels; his grandparents, Anthony and Gladys Dillon; his aunt, Tarrie Lynn and Charles Echols; his uncle, Anthony “P Hustle” and Ashley Dillon, and all of their children; along with his great-aunts and great-uncles, extended family, friends, teammates, and countless others whose lives he touched. Though his time on earth was far too short, Chance’s life touched many hearts and left an impact that will never be forgotten. His smile, his laughter, his love of football, fishing and hunting, and the countless memories he created will forever remain a treasured part of the Daniels family’s story. Chance will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the blessing of knowing him.

Honoring the life and legacy of Leon Magee, Jr., born to the late Leon Magee, Sr. and Hattie Mae Payne on June 25, 1943. He lived a life defined by love, dedication, service, and strength. Leon, a beloved husband, superhero father, unrivaled grandfather, amazing brother, devoted educator, legendary coach, and guiding light to countless others, ran his final lap and took his rest on September 3, 2026, peacefully at his home in Hattiesburg, MS. Leon is survived by his loving wife, Billie A. Magee, with whom he shared a loving bond and cherished their retirement years together. A proud native of Picayune, Mississippi, Leon graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1962 and earned his degree from Alcorn State University in 1968. While at Alcorn, he met and married the late Mrs. Forestean Magee, a union blessed with three children. He leaves to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy his children Jonathan Ramon Magee, Kamajlit Thompson, and Danielle Magee. His family grew to include seven grandchildren: Antwuan May (Sierra), Brandon (Chassity), Dylan, and Jordan Thompson, Mackenzie and Kaitlyn Jones, and La’Shiriah Maxwell. Three great-grandchildren: Kalel Thompson, Camron May, and Emory Thompson. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Cross, Linda Williams, Jackie Muhammad (Pamela), Johnny "Gabe" Payne, Calvin Payne, and Valorie Magee. He also leaves behind four sisters and a brother-in-love, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former athletes, students, and lifelong friends who were each a source of tremendous pride, joy, and inspiration throughout his life. Leon wore many titles: husband to his wife, daddy to his children, Paw Paw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bubba to his siblings and cousins, and for his hundreds of athletes and former students, he was “Pop”. He surpassed the expectations of every single title. A man of immense courage, he never hesitated to speak up for those he loved, even when it wasn't politically correct. In 1969, Leon began his career in education at JJ Gulledge High School, where he taught and coached with passion and purpose. He remained through the school’s transition into Tylertown High School, serving faithfully until his retirement in 1996. His students and athletes affectionately nicknamed him “Pop,” a reflection of his father-figure presence and his unique, nontraditional approach to guiding young people. To many, he was far more than a coach or teacher…he was a mentor, counselor, motivator, and steady voice of encouragement. Nowhere was Pop’s passion more evident than on the track, where he built a statewide powerhouse program, earning the honor of Mississippi High School Coach of the Year in 1994. Rooted in discipline and character-building, his athletes will forever remember that he didn't just teach how to race; he taught them how to finish. Leon Magee’s influence reaches far beyond the track. His legacy lives on through the family he inspired, the students he uplifted, and the countless lives he taught to believe in greater possibilities. The Man may be gone, but the legend of Leon "Pop" Magee will live on forever in the lives of many.
