Lettie Taylor Obituary
Lettie was born on October 4, 1937 in Lauderdale County, MS to Lorenzo and Clarice Mosley. Her family lived in Cuba, AL and moved to Hattiesburg in 1948 at the age of 11. She attended the Hattiesburg Separate School District attending Mary Bethune Elementary School and L.J. Rowan High School. She soon marries Josh Boney, Sr. To them were three children: Theresa, Eric, and Lydia.
Lettie joined Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age. Later, she sang in the senior choir then she became a founding member of the Gospel Chorus, now Voices, in 1973. She served in other capacities including Deaconess. Lettie enjoyed quartet singing. She sang with the Spiritual Jubilees and later became a founding member of the Southland Gospel Singers in which she sang for over 45 years.
Lettie’s employment history includes the Methodist Hospital, J.C Penny and Goodwill Industries where she was the store manager for many years. With her retail and supervisory experience, she transformed the Goodwill store into a thriving entity.
She transitioned this life on June 18, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty Jane, brothers Robert Mosley and Henry Pettigrew, late husband Josh Boney, Jr and Willie Taylor. She leaves to mourn two daughters Theresa McKeller of Hattiesburg, MS, Lydia Smith (Richard) of Huntington Beach, CA, and her son Eric Boney (Sheri) of Hattiesburg, MS. She leaves eight grandchildren: Evan, Josh, Tony Jr., Eric Jalen, Brandi, Brandsen, Chloe, and
Braylon and one great grandchild Ethan, special niece Carolyn Mosley Draughn and a host of nieces and nephews.
