Effie Laviner James, 82, passed away on May 2, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on September 23, 1943, to Jess and Effie Lewis in Carriere, MS. Effie lived a very full life as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She spent 23 years following her husband, Franklin James, around the world while he served in The United States Air Force, while also working and raising their only daughter, Michelle.

After retiring from the military, they settled in Petal, MS, where she began working at The University of Southern Mississippi. She worked there for 20 years. After her retirement, she devoted herself to spending time with her family and Petal Harvey Baptist Church.

Effie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Jonathan Daniels; grandsons, Tyler Moore and Ryan Moore (Lauren). They will always cherish the memories of their times together. Effie is now reunited with her later husband of 34 years, Edwin Franklin James, and their dog, Angus.
