Margaret Flemings Tart was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on November 22, 1944, and was one of twelve children to Mr. Malcolm and Mrs. Earlene Flemings.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and learned to serve others in love and established a deep faith that she would share with anyone she met.
Margaret attended Hattiesburg Public Schools and was a proud 1963 graduate of L. J. Rowan High School. After high school she joined the workforce and was employed by Methodist Hospital, HeadStart, William Carey University, Pearl River Community College, and Petal School District.
Margaret’s most important calling was being a devoted, loving, fair, but tough mother to her children and their friends. She never met a stranger and embraced everyone she encountered with truth and love. Many considered her a second mother, so her home was a safe place where she devoted herself to fostering connections, sharing wisdom, and encouraging others to love and support one another deeply without expecting anything in return. Her passions were gardening, cooking, spoiling grandchildren, spending time with her friends, burning up the phoneline, and using what God blessed her with to be a blessing to others. Margaret’s loving spirit and steadfast devotion to those she loved will be cherished always.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Earlene Flemings, a son Nevil Robert Flemings, her life partner Clifton “C.L.” Price, her siblings, Eugene Flemings, Malcolm “Mack” Flemings, Alphonso Flemings, Josephine Scott, Dorothy Branch, Henrietta Flemings, Beulah Simpson, Jewel Roberts, Modessia Williams, and Charlotte Ambeau.
Margaret’s legacy of love endures through her surviving children: Ladonna McCann, Johnny Tart (Sherita), Anita Tart, Brenda Tart, Melvin Tart (Amanda), Marcus Blake (Alicia), Marlon Blake, three bonus children Rhonda Bass, Micheal Bass, David Bass, and her brother Robert Flemings. Her memory lives on in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
