Pleaze “Tony” Oatis, Jr., 71, of Hattiesburg died February 6, 2024, at the Forrest General Asbury

Hospice House.  He was raised in the Hattiesburg community and was a member of True Light

Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Hattiesburg Eureka School and Hattiesburg High School. He

joined and served in the United States Army Reserve for over 10 years. While serving in the military and

living in Hattiesburg, he met and married his wife of 41 years, Annie Jean Everett of Waynesboro,

Mississippi. Tony and his wife made their home in the Glendale community of Hattiesburg, where he

resided until his death. After honorable military discharge, he worked for the State of Mississippi at the

Hattiesburg Housing Authority as a maintenance worker for over 28 years until his retirement in 2011.

Following his retirement, he would continue to work maintaining the family property of over 8 acres and

helping his children and grandchildren whenever needed. Tony was a loving and friendly man, as family

and neighbors could always expect a funny story or kind word when seeing him around the community.

   Tony was born September 6, 1952, to Pleaze and Willie Mae Oatis, Sr., who preceded him in death. He

was also preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Armstrong, nephew Vernard Armstrong, and several

special friends.

He is survived by wife Annie Oatis and four children: Willena Latoya (Kevin) Causey of Hattiesburg;

Victoria (Lemuel) Price of Chicago, Illinois; Thomas L. (Angela) Everett of Hattiesburg; and Shomari Rawls

of Jackson, MS. 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his special nephew, James Armstrong of

Hattiesburg, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A celebratory visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 am followed by

service at 11:00 am at Forrest Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be

made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation.
