With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Delores “DeeDee” McGruder Nicholson, who departed this life on Monday, November 20, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and grace. Born on February 9, 1947, in Enterprise, MS, to the proud parents of Eddie C. and Izola McGruder, DeeDee was the cherished third child among eight beloved siblings.
Her career journey began as a teacher in the Hattiesburg Public School system, a role where she undoubtedly touched the lives of many. Later, she transitioned to a career at South Central Bell/AT&T, serving as a systems technician and telephone operator until her well-deserved retirement.
DeeDee's spiritual home was Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she found solace and belonging for many years. Though physical limitations and health reasons prevented her from attending services in person, her unwavering spirit continued to resonate within the congregation.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Nileen Nicholson, her parents, and four siblings all which weighs heavily on our hearts as we remember DeeDee's profound love and the cherished bonds she held dear.
Left to honor and treasure her memory are her devoted children, Rodney McGruder (Patty) and Jasmine Woodland, alongside her life companion, Melchester Woodland.
