Obituary for David Earl Chandler

David Earl Chandler’s story began on April 5, 1941, in Hattiesburg, MS.  David was the second of four
children born to Dave and Dorothy Hines Chandler.  David accepted Christ at an early age and
maintained a deep spiritual connection throughout his life.  David graduated from Eureka High School in
1959 and attended Alcorn State University (formerly Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College) in
Lorman, MS for two years.  Upon his return to Hattiesburg, MS, David married and moved away to
Chicago, IL. In 1969 he returned to Hattiesburg, MS where he began his entrepreneur ventures as a
photographer with a childhood friend. A couple of years later he moved to Jackson, MS where he
married and started other businesses in his favorite area of Jackson – right off J.R. Lynch Street.  Several
of those businesses included a bookstore, night club, and convenience store to name a few.
David was known by many as Mr. Chandler, Uncle David, and David Earl.  When he walked in the room,
if his 6’3” statue didn’t get your attention, his baritone voice did. He was a man of integrity and wisdom,
and if you really knew him you knew he said what he meant and meant what he said.
David was preceded in death by both parents, Dave and Dorothy Hines Chandler; brother, Curtis Carl
Chandler; and first cousin, Janet Johnson Cleveland, who lived with him at the age of 16 after the
untimely death of her mother.  David leaves behind 2 sisters, Anna Marie Chandler and Millicent
Chandler Shelby; 7 children, Vincent Knight, David Chandler Jr., Pamela Chandler, Donald Chandler,
Stacy Chandler Dorsey, Kelvin Chandler, and Christopher Chandler (the twins); and 7 grandchildren;
Jason Chandler, Demi Justine Chandler, Joshua McClinton, Aja Chandler, Chrisshun Chandler, Rashard
Chandler, Seth Chandler, and Kelsea Dorsey, 3 great grandchildren and several cousins.

John 14:1-3
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and trust also in me.  There is more than enough room in
my Father’s home.  If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me.”

If Tomorrow Starts without me
When tomorrow starts without me, and I’m not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things, we didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me, as much as I Love you,
And each time that you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too.

So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.
