Robert Earl Nixon known as “Nick” to his family and friends, was born October 5, 1946
to the union of Jessie Mae Collins and Kildrain Nixon in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Robert attended Earl Travillion High School. He married Frances Nixon in 1992 and this
blended family was blessed with six children.
Robert served his country in the U. S. Army from June 1965 to August 1968. He served
in the Company B 196 th Light Infatry Brigade as a Sargent E5. He was a good leader.
On January 1, 1968, Robert was wounded in Vietnam. As a result of his wounded
service, he received a Purple Heart. He gathered regularly down through the years with
other purple heart recipients.
Robert joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Eastabuchie at an early age. He later rejoined
Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Eastabuchie where he accepted Christ as his personal
Savior under the leadership of the late Rev. Steven Hawthorne and continued to serve
the Lord as a devoted head deacon until his homegoing under Rev. Anthony Barney.
Robert departed this life February 13, 2023 leaving cherishable memories to his loving
and devoted wife of 30 years, Frances Nixon, four sons; Robert (Sonya) Nixon, Jr.,
Dariel Thomas, Semetrius Nixon, Dariel Nixon, Jr, all of Hattiesburg, MS; two
daughters; Nadia Nixon of Tallahassee, Fl, and Samayah Nixon of Hattiesburg, MS, 4
grandchildren; Raine Vanida, Christopher Dante, Robert Vaughn all of Hattiesburg, MS
and Corey D’Shaune of Aubrey, TX, 2 great-grandchildren; Morgan Cryer of Aubrey,
TX and Chloe Nicole Nixon of Houston, TX. He leaves a loving sister-in-law; Kathy
Beasley and one brother-in-law; Marshall (Carolyn) Watson, four nieces: Shauna
(Henry) Flowers, Maria (Robert) Barnes, Melissa Richardson, Natasha Richardson, two
nephews: Jarvis Richardson and Jessie James Richardson; preceded in death; his
mother Jessie Mae Collins and his father Kildrain Nixon; One brother Jessie James
Nixon and two sisters Annie Marie Richardson and Donnie Elaine Glass.
