Obituary

To the union of the late John Henry and Lessie Ola Brown was born Mattie Alberta Brown on July 12, 1939, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was the fifth of eight children: Two of which preceded her in death, Howard Austin Brown and Henry Hollis Brown.

Ethel Fabre (Harold) and Ruby Smith, both of Phoenix, AZ; Earnest Jackson Brown (Yvonne) of Chicago, IL; Hattie Denson and Helen Marshall (Cecil), both of Petal, MS.



At a young age, Mattie accepted Christ and was baptized at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. She attended Springfield High School. She met and married the late Carl Edward Wyatt. From this union were born three children, Tony Edward Wyatt of Petal, MS; Cara Wyatt Allison of Baton Rouge, LA; and Carl Mathis Wyatt of Atlanta, GA. Mattie later met Alonzo King Jr. in Kansas City, MO. She moved back to her hometown. She spent fifty years with Alonzo King, “Junior.” Her grandchildren include Tony Edward Wyatt II of Houston, TX; Varretta Jevon Wyatt (Ebony) of Hattiesburg, MS; Tonita Wyatt Birotte (Antonio) of Opelousas, LA; Chencia Lewis of Ypsilanti, MI; Carlton Louis Wyatt (Candace) of Gulfport, MS; Jacquana Patterson of Hattiesburg, MS; and Shelton Horace Kelley (Nikela) of El Paso, TX. She had a host of great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other Family and Friends that loved her dearly.
