Obituary for Thomas Wade Payne

Thomas Wade Payne made his unscheduled, one-way trip to heaven on April 9, while engaging in one of his favorite pastimes – yardwork. He was 60. Tom is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie Longino Payne; his well-loved daughter, Corley (Christian); his father, Bob; his brothers – Tim; Bob, Jr. (Rita); and Casey (Melissa) and his little dog, Jack. His mom, Judy, was called home before him.

Tom was born into an Air Force family, and was fortunate to live in some exotic locations growing up – Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey. He served a tour in the Air Force, himself, before marrying Connie and living in Pineville, LA. They moved to Gonzales, LA where they had their daughter, Corley Rae. Tom was about to retire from Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. He faced a series of health challenges related to diabetes and heart disease; but, Tom was constantly working on improving his health.

He was always joking around. Tom was helpful to anyone who needed him. He was interested in others and what they were going through. Tom was fiercely loyal to family and friends. He was well-loved and appreciated by co-workers, family, and friends. His family has received many warm expressions of sympathy, including those of LDEQ’S Secretary and the Governor.

Tom had a strong Christian faith. He would love to see you again in heaven. Consider joining him there, where we are sure he is having all the BBQ, fried food, steaks, and desserts he can eat! There will be a celebration of his life at Dutchtown Baptist Church 36495 C. Braud Road, Prairieville, LA 70769, on Thursday, April 12, 2022 from 2-5. Please join us and share the impact he made on you. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. We like and .
