Obituary for Helen Marie Nicks
Helen Marie Dozier Nicks was born August 30, 1946, to the late Doll Dozier and Gladys Holloway McGee Dozier of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was the youngest of five siblings, Eddie Lee, James Earl, Willie Louis, and Hattie Mae, all of which preceded her in death. She departed this life on November 2, 2021.
She was baptized at an early age and became a member of the New Ebenezer Baptist Church of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Later in life the spirit led her and her husband to become members of New Testament Baptist Church. While there, she served as a Deaconess until her health declined.
Helen graduated from Rowan High School in 1966. She also received a diploma from Jackson School of Automation in 1967 and later attended Harris Junior College in Meridian, Mississippi.
She was employed as a Bank Teller for Trustmark Bank, Nutritional Aide for Mississippi State University and retired as a School Crossing Guard for the Hattiesburg Police Department.
Helen married the love of her life, Larry Mitchell Nicks and remained married for fifty-two years. To this union, two children were born, Tonyua and Myrick.
She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Helen was a very classy dresser and known for wearing very stylish hats. She had a friendly personality and never met any strangers.
Helen’s precious memories will be cherished by: her loving husband, Larry Nicks of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; her children: Tonyua (Lamont) Patterson of Fort Washington, Maryland and Myrick (Shantrell) Nicks of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren: Taylor, Mason, and Jackson Nicks, Paris, and Sydnee Patterson; Special and dear cousins: Eddie (Sarah), Leslie and Sommer Holloway; Two brothers- in law: Gregory (Evelyn) Nicks and James (Marilyn) Nicks of Forest, Mississippi; Two sisters- in law: Ethel (Stanley) Thomas of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Janet Williams of Forest, Mississippi; Godchildren: Lakan Powell, Charles Drinker and Brianni Whigham; Close family friends: Sondra Doss, Katie Craft, Letonia Drinker, Diane Whigham, Linda Hinton, Exxie Brown, Michael Jefferson, D'Ana Smith, Michael Smith, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
