Obituary for Darnell C. Adams

Darnell C. Adams, 82, of Union, MS, graduated to Heaven, on August 28, 2021. Darnell was born to Ansley and Annie Carney on August 6, 1939, in Meridian, MS. Darnell graduated from Meridian High School with the Class of 1957. She married the love of her life, Dr. Othel Wayne Adams, Sr., on February 6, 1965. Married until her husband’s passing, they worked along side each other at Adam’s Animal Hospital for 42 years. Darnell was a talented dog groomer and a Jill of all trades. Her true passion was the equestrian world. She loved to ride horses and run barrels, but selflessly spent a lot of her time hauling her children and grandchildren to shows, where she loved to cheer them on. She so enjoyed taking her grandchildren to their other activities and especially to church. Darnell was an active member of Church of the Way in Meridian. She worshipped the Lord with zeal, sang on the worship team, and blew the shofar horn. Darnell had a passion for showing affection to others and for sharing Christ’s love and how He had impacted her life. She often prayed with people who needed it or just because she was led to do so. Her love as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend was boundless and it radiated to those who loved her in return. Darnell was affectionately known as Mai Mai by family and friends and was an exemplary Christian. She was truly an amazing woman and will be greatly missed by so many. We find comfort in knowing that she is in the presence of our Lord and Savior and that we will see her again one fine day. Darnell’s life story was a great one, and all who knew her were blessed to be a part of it.

Darnell is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years; her parents; one son, Dr. Othel Wayne Adams Jr.; and one daughter, Sheryl Lynn.

She is survived by five children: Missy High (Jim), Cece Poe, Auburn Sweeney, Bricklee Miller (Donnie), Berea Howard (Micky); 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Church of the Way, Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 11am-12pm, with the service to immediately follow . Interment will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian, MS.
