Charlene Short
Born May 1, 1949 Age 72
Parents: Charles L. Jones Sr. and Vivian Fontenette in Hattiesburg, MS, one of seven children.
Proceeded in death by her parents and one Brother Charles L. Jones, Jr. and one half- sister Lavern Smith.
She married Howard W. Short Sr. in 1968.From this union two children were born. Howard W. Short (Eva), Yevette Monique Samson (Michael Sr.)
Mrs. Short graduated from Rowan High School 1968. She was one of the founding members of the Catholic Youth Organization as secretary which fundraised money for under privilege children for
Christmas in the community and provided a safe event for children in the community. She was very active in the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s and 70’s.
After her husband got out of the Air Force, they lived in South Dakota for some years and while there she was Foster Parent and owned a Day care. She was also a certified contractor for the state of Wyoming. She moved with her family to Hattiesburg, MS in 1983 to take care of her mother. She worked several manager positions for Churches’ Chicken, Wendy’s and Hudson’s where she later retired in 2010.
She departed this life on May5, 2021 at home in the company of her devoted husband and children. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Howard W. Short Sr., Son Howard W.
