Obituary for Tommy Hall

Tommy Hall Jr. 71, of Hattiesburg, passed away on January 6, 2021, at Forrest General Hospital. He was born on January 24, 1949, in Monticello, MS to Tommy and Cora Mae Hall.

Tommy grew up in Hattiesburg and graduated from Rowan High School, class of 1968. Up until the time of his death, he was the Vice President of his class reunion committee for over 13 years and credited for the reprinting of their 1968 Yearbook in 2013. Tommy really enjoyed socializing with his fellow classmates, keeping their reunions traditions alive, reminiscing about old school days. Without hesitation, he was always available and dependable when his good friend “Doris” called asking him to do just about anything for their classmates.

Tommy was very strong in his faith. He confessed to Christ at an early age, serving as an altar boy of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and later joining Mount Olive Baptist Church where he re-committed his life to Christ under the leadership of his life long friend and pastor, Reverend Arthur Siggers. As a member of Mount Olive Church, he faithfully served as church security until his death. He was committed to his family and always carried what he called his “weapon” (cross) around his neck, and walked in faith. Tommy was a beloved and adored husband, dad, brother, uncle and grandfather. A man of many words who knew just about everything.

As a lifelong resident of Hattiesburg, Tommy was the first black employee of Orkin Pest Control in the state of Mississippi. He worked several years at Miller Pickens and Hattiesburg Zoo until starting his own fencing company, Hall Fencing, retiring afterwards.

Tommy was an active member of the Big Six Domino Club. He loved traveling, fishing, card playing, putting together puzzles and Sudoku.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; two children, James Hall and Tara Powell-Hall; one brother, Marvin Hall. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 52 years, Rebecca Hall of Hattiesburg, MS; his sons, Sidney Miller (Helen) of Houston, TX and Thomas Hall (Raquel) of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren: Kai, Chandra, Catyria, Octavia, Torria, Jarrod and God-son, Devon Blakely; sister, Diane Kelly of Houston, TX; brother, James Hall of Las Vegas, NV; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, January 11, 2021, at Forrest Funeral Home 10:00-12:00 with the service to follow at 12:00. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery.
