Two things stand out in my memories of Warren. The first let me know I could always go to him for understanding. When I was around 8 years-old I came home from school and Warren was there. I was upset because someone at school had made fun of me using words I didn’t understand. When that person realized I didn’t understand what they were saying, it even made it worse. I told Warren and he taught me something to say if it ever happened again. I’ve never forgotten it (“Your vocabulary is too copious for my diminutive comprehension, so in further continuances please elucidate to avoid any further misconception of the subject under discussion”). The second thing that comes to mind shows how he appreciated whatever was done for him. In 2008, when Ellie went on a cruise for her business, I drove to Tennessee to take care of things for her. She wanted someone to go to the grocery store, cook, and make sure Warren took his medicine on time. One of the things I made for him while I was there was homemade cookies. When Warren told me how much he loved them, I made sure he had fresh cookies every day for the rest of my stay. Warren will be missed by everyone that knew him.
