Obituary for Sharon Plummer Misner
Sharon Plummer Misner of Hattiesburg entered into the presence of her Savior on May 29, 2020. She was born on December 19, 1950 to Jeanne and Bob Plummer in Anniston, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband Jim Misner of Hattiesburg and their four children: Sarah (Mike) Atkinson of Flowood, MS, Jonathan (Gry) Misner of Oslo, Norway, Joshua (Deanna) Misner of Vestavia Hills, AL, and Adin Misner of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; six grandchildren: Emma, Ben, and Gracie Atkinson and Caroline, Sarah Kate, and McClain Misner; her loving mother Jeanne Plummer of Anniston, AL; her brother Tommy (Sandy) Plummer and sisters Donna Plummer and Peg (Bill) Brockman as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sharon was born and grew up in Anniston, Alabama where she graduated from Anniston High School. In the summer of 1971, she met a charming young teacher and coach who was working at Anniston Academy, and in ten short weeks they were married. Feeling the Lord’s call to church ministry, Jim and Sharon moved to Clinton, MS where Jim attended Reformed Theological Seminary. As a pastor’s wife, Sharon served alongside her husband faithfully. A picture of compassion, empathy, strength, and determination, Sharon loved the people that God put in her path as they ministered in churches and Christian schools from coast to coast. Once her children were grown, Sharon pursued and received her nursing degree from Dyersburg State Community College and for years worked in clinics and hospital systems as an RN. She loved being a nurse, as it combined her interests in health and medicine with her strong desire to help others. The highlight of her nursing career was during their time at Chamberlain Hunt Academy in Port Gibson, MS. Sharon wore a lot of hats during that time: nurse, wife, mother, grandmother. But she also was a stand-in mom and grandmother to dozens of boys who were there away from their families. She loved those students like she loved her own children and treated them with great kindness.
Sharon’s family was her world. She was fiercely loyal to her children and grandchildren and would do anything in her power to help them. She doted on her grandchildren and sought to be involved in their lives as much as she could. She brought them thoughtful gifts, took care of them when they were sick, and loved them in so many ways seen and unseen. She also wouldn’t let them be less than they could be. She encouraged them, exhorted them, and spoiled them. Her selfless love to her family and adopted family will be sorely missed.
All of the things that Sharon was involved in, she was passionate about. She loved her business partners and her relationships with them. She loved reading and researching about natural health trends and products and incorporated that into how she lived. She loved her friends from First Presbyterian Church Hattiesburg and from her Bible study. She loved her supper club. She loved her mother and siblings and their children. She loved her husband and her children and their families. And most importantly, she loved her Savior. Always bold, Sharon loved sharing the truth of the gospel, and because of the way she served and loved her friends, her ministry to others will have a long and lasting effect.
The family would like to thank her health care providers at Forrest General Emergency Room, UMMC Neuro-Science Intensive Care Unit, and Asbury Hospice House for the excellent care she received.
A private memorial will be held on May 31, 2020, at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Presbyterian Christian School.
