Obituary for Thomas Francis Faires Sr.

Thomas Francis Faires, Sr., 81, of Hattiesburg, went home to his Savior Jesus Christ on May 23, 2020, at Asbury Hospice House. He was born on Feburary 27, 1939, to Thomas Flo Faires and Helen Parks Faires in Memphis, Tennessee.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary McKenzie Faires and three children: Kay (Richard) Pinegar of Dauphin Island, AL, Thomas Francis (Melissa) Faires, Jr. of Memphis, Tn, and Phyllis Faires Clayton of Memphis, Tn. ; seven grandchildren: Virginia (Adam) Velazquez, Sylvia (Tommy) Hanes, Thomas J. Faires, Catherine Faulhaber, Caroline Faulhaber, Margaret Faires, and Elizabeth Faires; two brothers John Faires and Robert Faires; one sister Helene Broderick; one great granddaughter, Tesla Velazquez and his beloved dog, Sadie.
Thomas was raised in Memphis, Tn., graduated high school from Columbia Military Academy in 1959, served his country in the Navy and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in Accounting in 1969. He received his Certified Public Accountant certificate in 1969. He worked for many years at Union Planters National Bank in Memphis, where he met his wife, Mary.
He was an avid runner and participated in marathons and triathalons throughout the years. Moving to Scottsdale, AZ, in 1984, he became interested in horses participating in many riding activities, such as team roping and pleasure riding. Thomas was a member of the Maricopa County, Arizona, Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and was named Posseman of the Year in 2001. He retired from the Arizona Department of Revenue in 2002, where he served as a Sales Tax Auditor. Thomas and Mary moved to Hattiesburg in 2003. He was a former member of the Pinebelt Master Gardeners and The American Legion.
His greatest loves were his God, his Church (Heritage United Methodist Church) and his Country. An avid patriot, there was always an American flag flying outside his home. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and attended the Faith Class there.
A memorial service will be held a later date at Heritage United Methodist Church.
