I was indeed caught off guard when I heard that my dear friend of more than 40 years had passed to be with our Lord and Savior.

I first met Berdie when I first moved to Hattiesburg in 1969. Berdie always reminded me of a beautiful flower that just kept on blooming. She had a special gift of making you feel like part of the family and always sharing words of wisdom as a means of encouragement. Many stories she shared reflected the love of family, life struggles, life successes and keeping the faith.
As a friend, I know for a fact that she had a close relationship with the Lord and a strong believer in his Holy powers. Berdie was a devoted mother and spouse. She also had genuine admiration for her family and friends. Many times, she would stop by for a friendly visit on a Sunday afternoon after church and throughout the week have long friendly conversations on the phone.
I will never forget my dear friend, who taught me so much about life. But rather honor, remember and cherish the memories we shared as friends. Keeping the beautiful memories in my mind and heart is an important part of my healing journey.
According to Bernie Siegel, “One cannot get through life without pain…what we can do is choose how to use the pain life presents to us. “

Friendship Forever,
Deloris Brooks
