David was born on February 27, 1965, in Houma, Louisiana to Rayford and Gerda Mitchell. He graduated from Oak Grove High School where he was a valuable player on the football and baseball field. The Mitchell Family resides in Lake Serene of Hattiesburg, Mississippi in their home of 30 years. David later attended Pearl River Community College. David married and has four children: Lindsey (Brett) Hall of Daphne, AL, Holly Mitchell of Hattiesburg, MS, David “Eric” Mitchell, Jr of Titusville, FL. and Matthew Mitchell of Sumrall, MS; five grandchildren: Allie, Alyssa, Ava, Fisher and Emma Claire; two siblings, Paul (Debbie) Mitchell of Flower Mound,TX and Stephanie (Scott) Tubbs of Hattiesburg, MS.

David was a man who enjoyed taking a hands-on approach to life. He was an accomplished outdoorsman at heart who loved his time in the woods or on the water, as well as hunting with his Dad and other family. He was a standing member of the NRA. David often found himself with family spending weekends at the family farm in Meadville, Mississippi where he enjoyed deer and hog hunting. Interestingly David felt called to be the caretaker of the Middleton - Mitchell Family Cemetery for the past 10 years where he will be laid to rest in Meadville, Mississippi. David loved barbecuing and many of you at this service have enjoyed his famous fried deer backstrap and deer sausage which he loved sharing with family and friends. On porkchop Thursday’s David was a regular patron at Mom & Dads, a favorite lunch spot. Picasso, his Australian Shepherd, gave him great comfort in his final days along with Deborah Barrett, whom he often referred to as his “guardian angel”. Tuesday nights often found David participating in pool tournaments at King Pins in Hattiesburg - a favorite pastime as he was a member of the APA. David remained in avid SEC and pro football fan all his life and caught the game with friends and family often - the Saints being one of his many favorite teams. He was a fun-loving and caring friend to many, and his stories and laughter will be sorely missed. He was a loving father, brother, and son whose memory will forever be in our hearts. David was a proud Grandpa to Holly’s girls and was eagerly anticipating the birth of his twin grandson and granddaughter due to arrive in September 2019 from Lindsey.
