Obituary for Rose Mary Mackey Thompson

Rose Mary Mackey Thompson passed away on May 29, 2019 surrounded by her husband, children, and family members. Rose was born to the late Ambus Mackey and Eula Mae Mackey (Copeland) in Lawrence County, Silver Creek, MS on June 5, 1955.

She grew up in the Hooker community and attended New Hebron Attendance Center. After finishing school, she trained as a Nurse and worked for Lawrence County Hospital for years until a car accident left her with the inability to practice. Afterwards, she indulged herself in cultivating her skills in culinary and assisting members of her family in entrepreneurship. Rose loved spending time with her family and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Thompson (Silver Creek, MS), two sons; Shawn (Teresa) Mackey, Sr., Madison, MS; Travis (Brooke) Garner, Silver Creek, MS; and one daughter, Crystal Mackey (Kenneth Collins, Sr.), Silver Creek, MS; Eight grandchildren, Christopher Mackey, Decamron Lewis, Shawn Mackey, Jr, Matthew Mackey, Brice Ashley, Cadence Walker, Kaylen Garner, and Kenneth Collins, Jr.

Preceded her in death were her siblings, Burnell (Eulah) Mackey, and Mae (Dallas) Bennett. She leaves to cherish her childhood memories and life experiences a brother, Henry (Patricia) Mackey, Bernice (Charles) Bournes, Lorese (Johnnie) Polk, and Erma (Simmie) Benjamin, all of Silver Creek, MS; a great uncle, Chester (Ana) Copeland of New Orleans, Louisiana, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many beloved extended family and friends.
