Celebration of life services in honor of our beloved, Dr. Mei-Chang “Mike” Cheng, will commence Saturday, December 23, 2017, 2:00 p.m. (11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. visitation) at Hattiesburg Community Church on 114 Newell Sullivan Rd, Hattiesburg, MS.
Dr. Cheng, resident of Hattiesburg, MS, led a noble professional career in Radiation Oncology for over 30 years with 14 years at the Forrest General Cancer Center. Our cherished physician, father, brother, and friend also contributed his time and efforts to Camp Blue Bird, love of animals, his family, patients & research.
Dr. Cheng, recognized as one of the most innovative medical professionals in the field of radiation oncology, devoted his life to the betterment of others. He continuously strived to offer his patients the best and most cutting-edge technologies. He was one of the first in the world to introduce intensity modulated radiation therapy.
During his commitments as Medical Director of Gulfport Memorial, Dr. Cheng helped establish the most modern radiation therapy technology to help cancer patients for the state of MS, the Cyberknife. Dr. Cheng initiated the radiosurgery program at the Forest General’s Cancer Center and developed the program into one of the most active and comprehensive radiosurgery programs in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Dr. Cheng, born in Hsinchu, Taiwan, lived much of his childhood in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical H.S. in 1971 and moved on to New Jersey to receive a BS in Biology from Rutgers University in 1975.
In New York City, Dr. Cheng received his MA in Anatomy from Columbia University and greatly earned his degree in medicine from St. Georges in 1981.
Dr. Cheng is survived by two children: Bridget and Sean (Jackson, MS); four brothers: CT (CA), Mei-Wei (China), Allen (NJ), and James (PA); and his life partner: Stephanie (Houston, TX).

Dr. Cheng is already greatly missed by all. He loved the work he did and always brought joy to those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor, “Mike Cheng Memorial” through the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation. Proceeds will support Camp Blue Bird and continued efforts to assist cancer patients.
