Obituary for George Norwood

Col. George Leo Norwood (80) US Army Reserve, Ret. went to be with his Lord on August 22, 2016. He was born October 17, 1935, in Smith County, Mississippi. He was the youngest of five children born to John E. and Willie Elizabeth Norwood.
He was a loving husband and father, a devoted friend and a helper to those in need. He was a man of faith who served in the church as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and he served as a deacon in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Laurel, MS. For the last thirteen years he has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg, Ms.
Col. Norwood is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Maurice Norwood; three sisters: Earnestine Okerlund, Jimmie Cain, and Daphene Lindsey. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Ellzey Norwood; three children: Dianna Lynn Norwood, Kendall Leo Norwood, and Phillip Lane Norwood; grandchildren: John Mark Norwood, Janae (Joey) Norwood Hutchison, Karla (Joseph) Ott, Reagan and Avery Norwood; two great grandsons, Jace Hutchison and Josiah Ott; a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Oaks Church. P.O. Box 298 Denham Springs, LA 70727.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 10am in Forrest Chapel with the service to follow at 11.
