Obituary for Gracie Lee Young

Gracie Lee Young
Gracie Lee "Sally" Gaddis-Young

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7-8

Gracie Lee Gaddis-Young, lovingly known as “Sally”, was born on August 31, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was the second of eight children born to the proud parents of the late Jimmie Lee and Grace Gaddis. Gracie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Plymouth Rock Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Simmons and Rev. Linwood Bolton, where she was a Sunday School Secretary. She had an unwavering faith in the Lord, and held strong to God's unchanging hand. Above all, she loved her Lord JesusChrist, her Heavenly Father, and her family. She also loved her Church family and the many friends she made through her life

Gracie attended Bay Spring Elementary, Eureka Elementary, W.H. Jones, and was a 1963 graduate of L.J. Rowan High School. She worked as a chef at Holiday Inn for 22+ years. Gracie was a caring, loving, kind person with much integrity, who spent life serving the Lord. Gracie loved reading, working with her plants and flowers, but her greatest passion was cooking.

"I will comfort you my child said the Lord. For I won't put more on you than you can bear." On Monday, February 29, 2016, at Charlton Methodist Hospital, Dallas, TX, God sent his Angel to touch Gracie and escorted her to her place of rest. She was proceeded by her husband, Johnny Young, and her brother, Odell Gaddis. She lives on in the hearts of all she touched.

Gracie leaves to cherish her precious and happy memories to her sisters; Annie Reeder of Las Vegas, NV, Jeanette (Alphonso) Harris of Hattiesburg, MS, Inez Mullin, Jimmie (Joseph) Hawthorne, Mary (Jerry) Wilson, all of Dallas, TX, and Georgia Travis of Petal, MS; one brother, Ray (Beverly) Gaddis of Hattiesburg, MS; three stepchildren; Timothy, Johnny, and Michelle; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, whom she loved very much.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, of Hattiesburg, with the service to follow at 11:00, at the church. Repast will be at Plymouth Rock Missionary Baptist Church following burial at Highland Park Cemetery.
