Obituary for Frederick H. Guenther, Jr.
Frederick Hugo Guenther, Jr. (Fred) died Sunday after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Fred was born on May 11, 1940 at Loma Linda Hospital while living at Murrieta Hot Springs Resort in Murrieta, CA, a family owned resort. He had an idyllic childhood growing up on the resort surrounded by generations of family and friends in lovely Temecula Valley. He later attended Alamos School in Murrieta, CA, where he and his siblings frequently rode their horses. Years later he attended boarding school at Army-Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA where he graduated from high school. During high school he lettered in football and wrestling and participated in theatre. He next attended Denver University where he met his wife Sue Thompson and had three children, Frederick H. Guenther, III, Margaret G. Haddad (Marcie) and Shane Guenther. After graduation, Fred moved back home with his family to Murrieta Hot Springs Resort, where he later became General Manager of the Hot Springs. Years later he changed his career and became a packaging salesman in Cincinnati, Ohio learning the business from his father in law. The family eventually moved to New Orleans, LA where his children stayed after his divorce, Frederick returned to California where he began his own packaging brokerage business. Here he lived until approximately 3 years before his death when he moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to be closer to his children and numerous grandchildren.
During his life Fred enjoyed music, travelling and being in and on the water. He was an avid scuba diver and enjoyed spending time on his boat in Oceanside Harbor.
Fred was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fred H. Guenther, Sr. and Ellen Nixon Guenther of Oceanside, CA.
He is survived by his children, sister; Judy Cole of Oceanside, CA., brothers: Tony Guenther of Lido, CA, and Carl Guenther of Walla Walla, WA. His grandchildren are Jennifer Haddad Hodge, Margaret Guenther, Brooke Haddad, and Samuel Adler. He is also survived by his dear friend Martha Ortiz of Vista, CA.

He will be sadly missed.
A celebration of life service will be held in California at a later date.
