Obituary for George Smith

George Ellis Smith, 84, of Hattiesburg, passed away on August 21, 2018, at his home in Dixie Community, surrounded by family. He was born on March 9, 1934, to Carl and Cora Smith in Millard, MS.
For his entire life, George was a very hard working man. He joined the Navy at a young age. He worked at the Mississippi Test Facility during the first landing on the moon. He became an electrician and worked for several companies throughout the south. When George retired, Gail and he had the time of their life by traveling across the country visiting many places, his favorite being the mountains. George spent many hours with his beloved dog Annie. She brought much joy to his life. George will be missed dearly by all those that knew him.
George is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lori Ann Smith; and brother Hoyle Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gail Smith; his daughters: Shirley Palmisano (David), Robin Schulze (Bruce), Debbie Pledger (Tommy) and Georgia Sewell; six grandchildren: Jeremy Kelley, Austin Sellers, Jennifer Pledger, James Parnell, Cody Pledger and Ethan Schulze; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, three sisters: Frances Rayburn (Alvin), Patsy Mims (Derwood) and Peggy Graham.
Visitation will be Friday, August 24, 2018, at Forrest Funeral Home 5-8:00pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Dixie Cemetery.
