Brenda Marie Cheramie, 67, of Hattiesburg, passed away on May 16, 2018. She was born on April 8, 1951, in Louisiana. She spent her early twenties as a singer and her passion for music only strengthened throughout her life. As a working mother of four, she pursued her higher education at Nicholls State University where she achieved a Master's degree with a focus on secondary education administration and reading curriculum studies. An avid reader, and fan of science fiction, Brenda instilled a love for reading in her own children and the many students she taught over the course of her long career as an educator. The majority of her career as an educator was at Grand Caillou Elementary School not only as a teacher but as a reading program instructor.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Donald J. Cheramie; four children: Darby John Cheramie, Christon James Cheramie, Abbey Marie Cheramie and Tarrah Victoria Cheramie ; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, soon to be delivered.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to charities that advocate for childhood literacy or music programs in public schools as well as donations of books to local schools and Little Free Libraries.
A memorial celebrating her life will take place Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 1pm at her home.
