Obituary for Exie Jean Rawls

Exie Jean Jackson Rawls, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2018. She was born on January 3, 1937, to Albert and Florence Jackson in Sumrall, MS. She was the seventh child of sixteen children born to their union.

Exie was baptized at an early age at Second Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member under the leadership of Rev. O.W. Spates. She later served as President of the Mission Board and as Pastor’s Aide. She held her position as First Lady for many years at Second Hopewell M.B.C., Farris Hill of Pelahatchie, MS, and New Bethel of Hattiesburg, MS.

Exie married the late Rev. John E. Rawls and five children were born to this union. She also retired from Forrest General Hospital.

She is preceded in death by one daughter, Rita Carol Rawls; one sister and five brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory, four children: Al Terry Rawls of Sumrall, MS; Craig M. Rawls (Chris) of Collins, MS; Janice L. McDonald of Sumrall, MS, and Donna R. Fortner of Houston, TX; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2018, 11am at Second Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with the service to follow at 1:00. Interment will be at Second Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
