Obituary for Harry Mueller

Harry A. Mueller (formerly of Saratoga, CA) died on Feb. 2, 2018 in Hattiesburg, MS. “A Navy Brat, a
Jokester, an inventor, an entrepreneur, a Patriot, a Marine, a Stanford University fan/alum, a father,
grandfather, great grandfather and husband”. He loved golf especially with his grandsons, son and
daughter. He was born in Norfolk, VA on Oct. 2, 1934 while his family was stationed there. His parents
were Harry August Mueller Sr. and Esther Simon Mueller. The family moved to Alameda, CA where Harry
spent his youth and graduated from Alameda High School. He believed our flag should be honored, and
when he was in elementary school, he was asked to carry the flag for the school convocation. However,
he hid his shoes in a bush near the bus stop because he loved to go barefoot. When his parents saw him
walking in with the flag barefooted, they were livid. Graduated from the University of San Francisco and
then graduated from Stanford University with a MS degree.
His professional career in Industrial Manufacturing Engineering spanned over 50 years, starting at the
Ampex Corporation in Redwood City, CA. Next at the Amdahl Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA , he was the
Director of Manufacturing Engineering and promoted to be their GM of Amdahl Ireland & then VP of
Operations for Amdahl for US, Italy and South Africa. His career continued with Trilogy, Harmon, and
Ramtek before moving his family to his wife’s family farm in Yorktown IN. He started a touch screen
computer company in Indiana. Later, he started teaching Mathematics at a local community college. He
was asked to head up their facilities and managed the building of additional campuses for Ivy Tech
Community College in Indiana.
His associations and licenses included: United States Marine Corps(Reserve), California Registered
Professional Engineer, President of International Lions Club, Cupertino, CA, Toastmasters International,
Elks, Advisory Board School of Business- San Jose State University(1984), Board Member, Irish/American
Chamber of Commerce(2002), Adjunct Math Professor at Purdue University and Ivy Tech Community
College, First Presbyterian Church, Muncie, IN, Board of Directors- Timberton Property Owners Assoc.
He was the glue that bound his family together. Harry’s deep voice and large laugh is a memory for
which we are grateful. His wife, Kristin who he met twice on a Pan Am flight first from Switzerland to
New York, then again from San Francisco to London, England (God had a plan) and their daughter, Kami
Bonner (husband, Wes and children: Presley, Leyton, Lily, Drew) of Sumrall, MS feel a large void in their
lives. Harry walked Kami down the aisle last November when she married Wes which is an incredible
gift to all of us. Harry has a son, Jeff Mueller (wife, Lisa) of Morgan Hill, CA and grandsons, Matt Mueller
(Carly Griffin) of Morgan Hill, CA and Scott Mueller (wife, Lisa) of Livermore, CA. His great grandchildren
really made him smile and laugh; Prestley, Hudson, Bailey and Brady. Harry’s sweet sister Joan (husband,
Robert), San Diego, CA always enriched our lives. No father or grandfather could be prouder of his
family. A common refrain we would hear, “Mighty Proud”.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 4901 Hardy Street, Hattiesburg, MS 39402 on
Saturday, February 10, 2018. Visitation: 1 to 3 pm. Service at 3. Forrest Funeral Home, Hattiesburg, MS is
handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Harry would love for you to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project.org, tax-exempt
