Obituary for Carmon Lester Jackson

Mr. C.L. Jackson died on March 29, 2014, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was
born in Stringer, MS, on January 14, 1926, to James and Lola Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was one of the last surviving
crewmembers of the USS Missouri, on which the Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed
formally bringing an end to WWII, on September 2, 1945.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Scott Martinolich, of the Galveston
County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia H. Jackson, of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Carmen
Martinolich; a granddaughter, Dawn Martinolich; and a great granddaughter,
Paiton M. Martinolich, all of Galveston, TX; his brother, James Jackson (Elli), of Hattiesburg, and
a host of nieces and nephews.
A private visitation was held on April 1, 2014, at Forrest Funeral Home, in Hattiesburg, MS,
followed by a graveside service with military honors at Richburg Cemetery.
